International Energy Agency
The International Energy Agency (IEA) was founded following the oil crisis in 1974. The organisation has 28 member states and is an indipendent body within the OECD with the main objective of reducing the dependence of oil in the society. IEA has its secretariate in Paris and runs the main part of its work within 42 different technology co-operations. Sweden takes part in about half of these.
 
IEA Bioenergy
IEA Bioenergy is one of the technology co-operations under IEA working for an increased co-operation between different countries in order to develop new and improved energy solutions and introducing these on the market. The activities are run as eight tasks, with the Swedish Gas Technology Centre being the appointed Swedish representative in IEA Bioenergy Task 37.
 
IEA Bioenergy Task 37
Task 37 primarily deals with the manufacture of biogas and trying to obtain a digestate of a high quality. The aim of the task is to describe and put together best available technologies within the groups areas of interest in addition to describing the situation for biogas production around the world. SGC participates as the national representative of Sweden funded by the Swedish Energy Agency. Within Sweden a reference group including also SP Tehcnical Research Institute of Sweden and the Biogas Research Centre at Linköping University has been set up to follow the work in the task and to broaden the perspectives. Dr Tobias Persson is the national team leader as part of his work at SGC.
